fuel gauge problems and light grey smoke on first startup on morning
hi there i have a audi a6 1.9tdi 2003 saloon.it has covered 84000 miles and has developed three problems.firstly fuel gauge which was not actually working properly when kind man [:@]sold me this car and told me he had left plenty of diesel in when actually car is onto reserve/low fuel warning lite (about 8 litres in tank) and gauge readsslightly under half and when tank full needle is pinned against bevel on gauge well past full.secondly on initial startup on morning especially on real cold days car starts very lumpy like its on 3 cylinders blows out a cloud of light grey smoke then runs smooth and no smoke rough running lasts 10/20 seconds.the rest of day no smoke always starts clean even when left standing all day at work.thirdly does any one know where i can get the small servo that opens boot from keyfob.mine has started sticking and when it does you cannot shut boot.thanks to any one who replies.
Ahhhhhhhh.
First, the fuel guage issue is probably a bad sending unit. I'm not an Audi technician so I couldn't tell you specifics, but you may have to just replace it. My guage read incorrectly on the first tank of fuel I ever put into it (it said I was almost empty, but when I filled it up I could only fit in about five gallons). After that, the guage started working and hasn't given me any trouble since.
As to the smoke in the morning, that sounds like some oil dripping into your exhaust overnight and when you start it, that oil is burning off. Sounds like you have some leaky seals (as is common with Audis) but do a search on this forum to get a better idea of where the leaks are. It has been discussed at length so I won't bother repeating it all here.
Finally, the servo motor for your boot (trunk) - you might have good luck at a salvage yard, but you could save yourself a lot of headache and just contact your dealer to determine how expensive it is. It might not be worth searching high and low if it turns out to be a $30 part. That being said, you could try some lubricant on the servo to see if that solves your issue before trying to replace it.

thanks for the reply.managed to sort out boot lock servo(actually called an actuater)rang main dealer and cost was £29.09 inc vat .is now fitted on car and is working a treat.
checked fuel sender wiring ok i suspect gauge itself because lite works correctly.have found a company through ebay that recons existing cluster called bba reman mite take a flyer and spend £160 and keep fingers crossed.still hoping someone will reply who has had same problem with gauge.
smoke on startup been advised by local garage could be down to air in diesel system and also an injector problem.have had system bled through and tipped bottle injector cleaner into tank.early days and may be wishful thinking but has seemed a little better since.
fingers crossed mite start praying[sm=goodidea.gif]
