just learned gas odor outside car diagnosed as fuel valve problem in tank, tank needs to be replaced major $$$ - anyone know of this as a persistent problem, the dealer says they do one replacement a month (sounds high to me). Audi should cover if faulty product, no recall posted for this issue - any others have same issue?

There is a nipple that breaks off the drivers side of the tank that is due to a metal support tube being installed incorrectly. No recall as of yet thou. Never seen the valve cause a fuel smell issue. Usually it cause a condition where the vehcile wont fill with gas. You may want to contact the ntsb as fuel leakage is a safty issue.
