Default Three liters out

Well, went back and he admitted that he pored in too much transmission oil. He removed about three liter in total, he had put in about elf liter. He showed me the overflow plug as I questioned him about this. It's dripping less but it still does, so will have to go back again! In another thread I have a related question to the behavior of my transmission.

Do a search on filling the transmission in this forum. It will give instruction on the correct way to fill the transmission.

Midniteoyl got it right... The trans has to be a specific temp when checking the level - it is not hard but it is complicated... A somewhat skilled DIYer can do it while a dufus mechanic usually gets it wrong.

If your not comfortable with crawling under the vehicle and using VAGcom find an indy that knows what he is doing. Run away from the guy that did yours.. He dosen't know what he is doing!

You're wasting your time, I believe.
He never stated the model of transmission or other data, besides the car is FRONT wheel drive.
He might have a Multitronic - with an overflow oil plug? Or any other fine piece of machinery.
For more than an year of problems there were no DTC read at all.
The referenced "they" are maybe the EU authorities in Brussels?
It seems to me we are not getting the whole story here...
Anyway - he opened another thread - waste again!

Nemohm,

I believe I wasted my time here with reading your comments. I did provide the transmission details and no I don't have a DTC reader.

And "he" is me and no "they" are not the EU authorities.

For a senior member your reaction is very immature.

Good Luck!

None... Normally.

No transmission is suppose to 'consume' oil..

Sorry my mistake... I actually meant, how much transmission fluid is required on an Audi A6, v6, 2.4 2000 automatic (tiptronic) gearbox?

To actually answer your question, you should obtain about 6 qts (liters) of fluid for the change to be sure you have enough. Since the temperature of the fluid afffects its volume, the actual amount will vary slightly.

If the car is lifted level and the engine is running after placing the shift lever in each gear for about 20 seconds with the brake engaged and then into park with the fluid temp as near 40 degrees C as you can get it, the fluid should just be at the bottom of the fill hole. Not much to it, that's all your guy has to do. Ask him if this is how he did it. Do not drive the car if you think the fluid is not at the right level.
