Default Have you changed your differential oil??

Before I got my A6 I took it to a garage to do checks on the car so I know I'm not buying a wracked car, the mechanic told me that I need to change the dif. oil cause when it's turn all the way to a side then drive the car, it's not very smooth (I think that's what he said), so do you guys change the differential oil? Oh btw another question, I know that there's smoked tailights and LED tailights, but is there such thing as Smoked LED tailights?? I need to change my taillights soon so yea~ thx guys!!!

I thought the difffluid would be the same as the tranny fluid, is it not? I'm new to AWD transmissions.

I changed both the transmission fluid and the differential fluid at 40,000 miles.

Front differential is part of the transmission. Rear is a separate differential.

As for the vibration while moving when the steering is turned all the way to one side, it is normal. Nothing to be concerned about, unless you are hearing CV joints.

As for the fluid change interval, I say somewhere between 70K to 80K. Audi claims that tranny fluid is lifetime fill, but we all know that is BS.

There is nothing 'official' that I've come across for changing the diff oil, not even in the Bentley's manual is there a reference to it as part of maintenance.

Having said that, I am considering doing it, as I've got over 115k miles.

ATF is not the same as the diff fluid. The transmission oil, is probably the same as the diff fluid, 75w90 fully synthetic, I would guess. Need to check up on that.

There is a similar debate regarding the manual transmissions. Should the oil be changed?

I had my clutch/flywheel replaced @94k. I had the transmission, transfer case, and differential fluids all changed at that time.

Replace transmission, transfercase, and rear diff fluids was 1.5 hours ($112) and 6 quarts of gear lube was $27. I guess this is one case where the A6 doesn't take some special, colorful, super-expensive fluid.
