Default Having fuel related problems...

First of all, I'm new to the site. I own a 2001 Audi A6 2.7TSport Quattro(little over a year now).

Everything about the car has been great, and except for a few minor things has been trouble-free.

Over the last week, I noticed my trip computer "miles to empty" guage would severly drop during moderate acceleration from a stop. I know in the past it would drop 5-10 mpg and then reset itself after a few minutes, but now it was dropping from...say 205 to 170...and then reset itself after about 30 minutes! I also noticed that my fuel efficiency was getting worse.

On Friday(December 15th), I stopped to fill up my tank(about 30 miles till empty). Filled up about 10 gallons. Turned the iginition on and the car was lurching forward, the tach needle was fluctuating within about 500 rpms and 1000rpms. I tried several attempts to restart car. Same thing. Then thinking maybe I got some bad gas, I filled up the remaining tank at another fuel station. After driving througout the day, it appeared the throttle was smoothing out. Initially, the car would not engage 2nd/3rd gear under full acceleration, but would need a slow depression of the throttle to switch gears.

Saturday morning: try to start car, engine starts...tach needle jumps...and car dies. Ok, called a local Audi/BMW/Mercedes tune-up shop. They said it sounded like it may be the fuel relays or the control module.

Today, I replaced the fuel filter. The car starts, and after applying a little gas it will continue to run...but will not drive.

Does anyone know how this could be repaired? Does anyone know the fuse/relay diagram?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I checked the archives here on the A6, but couldn't see anything related to my problem. Searched other forums, but no luck.

Thanks everyone,

Brent

My dad just finished taking it for a spin. Fortunately he's worked on several MG's, so used to tricky european cars. He took it out, and was able to drive it for several miles. Reached 90mph with no problems.

However, upon initial acceleration...throttle tip-in must be limited in order to switch gears. If done correctly, after a slow acceleration to about 50mph everything works as normal; including passing speed.

Any ideas? Vaccum hose? Idle control valve? Still Fuel-related?

Glad its running so as to make it easier taking it to the shop.

Appreciate any input...

thanks,

Brent,

Is the car getting a CEL? most times this will come up.

IMHO you need 2 things for keeping the car running right and diagnosing the car

a pressure tester and a VAG com the vag will let you talk to the ECU and TCU to see if there are any issues in the computer system and the pressure tester will let you check the VAC lines out to see if you have a boost leak

after taking it for another run with the windows down, could here a vaccum leak. Got back to the house and took the engine covers off only to see what it was....the two small cylinders on opposite sides of the intake piping. A small hose connects the two. The hose was cut near the left side of the intake piping where the small clamp holds it in place.

if I'm not mistaken this is the diverter valve? correct?

and I'm sure this isn't helping!

Any ideas on cost? part #?
