Default Headlights and blower motor died simultaniously

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum. My fiance and I have owned our 98 A6 for a few years now, and last night the headlights and blower motor just shut off at the same time while driving. I checked all the fuses and everything was okay. Just wondering if anybody had any insight as to what it could be. I'm a honda guy so the Audi stuff is a little over my head.

Maybe a bad ignition switch. Just a guess.

Welcome to the forums.

May or may not have anything to do with it....

While it may seem odd, they run power for the headlights and many other accessories through the ignition switch. Way to much power for contacts in the switch. They have a recall out on it (They replace the switch and a few wires and call it good.)

You MIGHT be able to get it fixed on the recall. If not, it isn't that hard to change the switch (cheap too) but you might have wiring to fix....

thanks for the help guys. I forgot to add, that the lights and blower motor do work when the engine is not running. So based on what you guys say ignition switch would make sense.

I do not know about the blower but, my A6 turns off the headlights when the motor is turned off. That is how it always worked. If the headlights lights work when the car is running, the switch is ok.

Oops read that wrong... if the lights work when the engine is NOT running -- but still turned on.. you have a different problem.
