hi guys, need some help. got 1998 A6, 2.4 auto, when idling i get no hot air through the vents, even if the temperature is up. if im driving or just raise the idle, i get hot air in car! as soon as i stop, it goes cold again! fluid levels are normal, its as if there is some kind of valve in the hoses that only opens up when the water pressure is raised. anyone got any ideas??

 

a quick fix to this is to just put your car in neutral when you come to a complete stop and rev it up a little... that will do the trick.........lol...lol..

I got the same problem. I am about as sure as can be that it is the water pump impellor. You need a water pump. Buy one with a steel impellor.

To quash some of the others who call BS on that, start the car and let it idle in your drive for 15 to 30 minutes, probably a lot less. If it boils over, I don't know how those who call BS on a bad water pump can keep a straight face.

Most likely, your rad fan will not come on. The engine is boiling the water, it does not reach the rad for the switch to turn on the fans, because the water in the rad is not overheating.

Bad news is that it is almost as much work as replacing the TB to replace the WP and Thermostat. How much, not by an Audi dealer, I don't know.

Audirocks is not far off. I did that this past Winter. Long lights, the heater blew COLD air. I DID shift to neutral, about 1200 RPM would flow hot water.

Regardless, the car does not get HOT, even on High, and it should scorch you.
