Last night I went to gas station and left my car's gas cap there. It had a little rain last night. This morning when I drove, the malfunction light was on and I found out I forgot to put the gas cap back. I went to autozone and bought a new gas cap. Since then I have driven about 35 miles and the malfunction light is still on.


Is this another problem I need to go to auto shop to have a fix or I can wait several days and the light will go off? Getting nervous about this light now. Thanks for any insight!

 

Just go back to autozone and have them erase the fault code with the scanner. If the fault code comes back for an EVAP leak the gas cap you got from autozone is crap (probably is) and get one from the dealer.

The EVAP system runs checks that the LDP (leak detection pump) pressurizes the gas tank to check for leaks every now and then. If the cap is left off, the light will come on.
