help! snow chains for 2000 A6 Quattro
Now, we were concerned in previous posts if getting a new tire with 3 old ones was bad for the quattro, it was stated that the quattro requires the tires to be less than 2/32 of an inch different from each other. Wouldn't adding chains to only two wheels severely effect this? Am I wrong in thinking this or what? I would assume all 4 wheels or none.
FYI, if you have ESP, turn it off in heavy snow and when using chains/cables. Otherwise you will have the ESP light up like the christmas tree.
Thanks, everyone, for your comments. I live in the Northwest (Oregon) and was stuck away from home, needing to travel on roads that were posted "Chains Required." Usually it's only a requirement to carry them, but in this case it was severe enough to require chains. Fortunately, my wife is a teacher and school was canceled so we were able to stay overnight and didn't have to travel in the worst of it. I just put the winter tires on and plan to return the chains that Les Schwab sold me without suggesting that they're not the best purchase for the quattro.
btw...sorry for not having listed geographical info, etc...I am brand new to the boards and was in a huge hurry trying to get out of town.
