how to: Disable daytime running lights
So I have just installed some HID's on my 2.8L 1999 A6 and to avoid wearing out my new set up I wanted to disable my daytime running lights. I searched the forum but came up empty.
After much serching I came across a very easy way of disabling them that works.
Step one: locate the headlight switch, just to the left of the steering wheel, with the switch in the off position press (push) the switch in. This will require some (not too much) pressure. Once you feel the unit push in turn it a few degrees to the right and remove the switch from the dash.
Step two: disconnect the wiring clips and look at the back of the switch, locate the "TFL" pin. (note: all of the pins are labeled, no understanding needed)
Step three: tape over the TFL pin. You may have trouble using electricians tape because it is quite thick, I ended up using Tuck Tape (the kind people fix their broken tail lights with) because it is very sticky and thin.
**Also you will want to tape over the end of the pin as opposed to wrapped around it as it will just slide back when you reconnect the wires
Step four: reconnect the wires and put the switch back in. Some jiggling (wiggling) of the **** will secure it
Step five: test it out, If it does not work and your headlights run when the switch is in the off position try everything again, the tape may have slipped.
So thats it. It is really easy and has been done alot on VWs (Passat).
Also I dont know if it is against the law to do this so you know...
So I dont know if this information was on this forum but it is now.
Thanks
