LEt me clarify. US spec C5s came with single fog light. The fact that you are saying "boot" you may not be from the US? GB?

Default C5: pre-2002 one rear fog (left), 2002+ two rear fogs

for US cars... UK was one on the right.

Tech article on AW has a step by step for a mod, but also explains how to get the inner carpet off the trunk lid to change a bulb... some hidden screws behind the triangle and in the inside handle.

Awesome, guys! Thanks a bunch! I'll knock this out tonight when I get home. Sounds straight-forward enough. I always hate getting almost done and then figuring out that some stupid special tool is needed.

I'm the second owner (first was a 3-yr lease return), so it was bone stock when I bought it. I doubt the one mod that he would have chosen to tackle would have been to add the second fog light. I assumed all C5 A6/RS6 came with both. No idea why the RS6 came with 2 rear fogs. I bet Porsche would have deleted both to save weight!

BTW, not from UK (good inference, though). Just watch too much Top Gear, I guess...
In my defense, I've never said colour, oesophagus, or burnt cream.

Thanks again!

I don't know the DOT regs, but I do know I have had three Jaguars from 96 to 06 that each had two rear fog lights in the tailight housings that were dazzlingly bright. If there were a regulation, it let them through and still does.

I'd rather not take my boot lining apart and break some little plastic clip despite being careful. If not, I'll just buy another manual, since my ElsaWin will not work anymore for some reason.
I just replaced the bulbs in my rear fogs, there are two lights there. After the replacement, only one is working. I had to close it up without troubleshooting it, but I'll get back and find the problem later. It looked like there was some corrossion on one of the terminals in the socket.

I can confirm as the owner of a 2002 A6 3.0 quattro (c5), in the United States of course, that BOTH (TWO) rear fog lights illuminate when the light switch is pulled out 2 notches.
