Infiniti G35????
If you know how to translate "de gustibus non disputandum", then probably it may spark a light as to what I should have said next regarding your opinion.
Right or wrong, they are all Point A-to-Point B carriages...
Yes, and most would be just as happy with a VW Passat as an A6, but here we are. I am not knocking the Nissans, just pointing out their is a major difference between the two cars, they are on totally different platforms. I think the G35 is a performance bargain on the used market when you compare it to the Acura or BMW. Also, I like that it has a little more room than the 3 series or A4. If I didn't find a nice A6 it was going to be a G35 or 2006 Passat. I could have got an Acura with 100K miles for the same price as my A6 with 53K, when you consider what they sold for new, I think the reliability concerns are priced into the deal.
Honestly, that new TL has got to be one of the uglist car in recent memory. That front grill that looks like a shield just dont look good, specially on a darker color TL, and they carry that shield theme to the back too, WTF. I have no idea where Acura is going to this new ugly shield grill design, but I am sure they are headed in the wrong direction. Kind of remind of those ugly Chris Bangle designs and the ugly Subrau Tribecca.
It all depends on how much snow and ice you have to drive in. I have to drive in the stuff off and on for 4 months out of the year. I like the confidence of having the Quattro while driving to work in the dark. It only takes one time of getting stuck in snow at 3am. That assurance is "priceless".
Yes its north dakota we get snow at all times of the year. But like I said I've got a chevy truck that can eat up 4 times as much snow as any A6 so drivetrain is not the deciding factor for me. Even this last winter when I had the A6 I still drove the truck on days when we were expecting 7-8 inches of snow. Who wouldn't want AWD on their car, but its not the top factor for me given I can leave the car at home any given day
This plus your other posts are spot on. Couldn't agree more...
I'm coming from a SAAB 9-3 perspective, looking for an A6 so I am not accustomed to reliability OR German fit & finish, its neither, but an incredible value pre-owned. When I started looking at 9-5s, my wife told me I was nuts for looking at another SAAB. We both had Nissans before and I traded in my 05 Maxima (3.5 VQ) for the SAAB. So I went from bland but reliable to interesting but a rattle-box, maintenance hassle.
The G35 is an ok looking car (not sure why so many people think its that fugly..) and also has a decent spacious interior. Personally, coming from a Maxima that had even more interior space, but nasty cockpit, similar to the Infinity, I would go for the C6. Great deals on an 05-06 A6 right now.

I guess as a former 3 X Infiniti owner I ought to chime in. Chefro is wrong... the G35 and M35 are both based on a rear wheel drive platform. The Altima and Maxima are both front drive (read I35). Same basic engine, but totally different chassis and drivetrain. The G35 was upgraded in 2005 to fix a few of the ugly duckling exterior bits and the interior was massively upgraded. Personally, I would not consider one older than 2005. The early models had massive brake problems which are well documented, but otherwise all are extremely reliable. I owned 3 infinitis and never had any problems and routinely sold them in the high 100Ks without ever having to make any major repairs. That would be the silver lining. To say that a G35 will be an upgrade from a Audi A6? That is a crazy idea. I looked at a few 2005 G35s (which my brother owns one) along side the A6 2.7T when I did my shopping and there just isn't any comparison. If reliability and maintanance costs are a big concern, I would say go with the Infiniti. If overall build quality and the european ride is a priority, I would stick with the Audis/BMWs and live with the added maintenance. I just bought a 2004 A6 2.7T S-(53K Miles) line for $10,500. You can find one real reasonable if you look. That will allow you some extra dough to personalize. Shopping is most of the fun anyway, don't rush it.

.... as I said, de gustibus non disputandum, even though others seem to do just that...
