Default Interior lights don't come on when opening driver's door

As the title says, the interior lights do not come on when opening the driver's door. They come on when I use the remote to unlock the car. They come on when the passenger door is opened. They come on when either of the rear doors are opened.

It should be a contact switch somewhere in the driver's door or on a door jamb, but I could not find one by scrolling through parts diagrams. Anyone know where the switch is?

I am the second owner of the car and the driver's side looks repainted so I suspect that the switch came unplugged during the repair process.

Thanks in advance,

Bob

My A6 does the same thing. The switch is in the door latch itself. There is a write-up somewhere about how to disassemble the latch to fix it.
