Default Ipod connection in 2001 A6

Hello,

I'm new to this forum and I thought it would be a great opportunity for me to ask people of knowledge something I was wondering about

I have a 2001 A6 2.8 Quattro and I need to connect my ipod somehow so I can listen to my music without having to burn a CD everytime I need to listen to something. The problem is the 01 A6 doesn't have an AUX jack and I have no faith in wireless transmitters!

I looked in the little box between the two front seats originally meant for a car phone and there is a little jack/plug in there that would normally connect to the phone and give the driver the option to take the call on the car's radio instead and I thought maybe this could work to connect an MP3 player but unfortunately I wouldn't know how.

Another idea I thought of was to utilize the connections for the CD changer somehow since my car is missing the actual CD changer in the trunk but I think the connections still remain.

Any help would be appreciated and please keep in mind that I'm electronically challenged somehow so please go easy on me thanks a million.

I used a dension ice link plus, with a panavise mount for my 01 Audi A6 2.8.

Works like a charm. And it's super clean

Not sure if they sell it anymore, but I bought mine off Ebay for $50.00

I was using the tape player thing but it is tacky and the sound is much better with the ice link.

You can see the full install here https://www.audiforums.com/forum/diy-do-yourself-55/icelink-ipod-install-2001-a6-very-long-pics-28913/

how exactly is it tacky? either way it is just a cable to your ipod. once its in the deck you cant see it. and the sound quality is virtualy the same. but i guess its just not cool to use tape deck. its all about being cool i guess.

LOL, well unless you have a mount for your ipod I found that the wire always just got in the way. But that is just my opinion.

As far as sound quality, it is not the same at all. I know because I just put mine in last weekend, The lows are much more clean and even, you tend not to get that background hiss caused by the tape player, and the volume control is so much better. Not to mention the fact that you can control the ipod from your stereo controls.

But just a FYI any ipod adapter connected directly to the stereo will always sound better than the tape player

I figured 25.00 tape adapter from radio shack vs 50.00 Ice Link from ebay, no contest

Thanks to everyone for the valuable input, the Denison Ice link is indeed discontinued but it seems like there is a LOT of other really good options offered on their website enfigcarstereo.com, I just emailed them asking if they would install it for me, because if I attempt to install it I'm GUARANTEED to start a fire somewhere

The wire does get in the way, oh well. I only paid 1.97$ for my cassette adapter. And I find it sounds no worse than my direct input in my Cadillac. Im not saying your ICEWIRE is not a better setup. If I had after market speakers and stereo, I would obviously not use my cassette adapter.

Woodshoe I am using a cassette adapter from Radio shack and it has been working like a charm, as a little update just got an email back from enfigcarstereo.com and they DO install.......so maybe one day I'll take a drive up to where they are and get properly hooked up

Good stuff. Keep in mind you can also use it as a hands free for your cell. Just plug it in to the headset and switch it to speaker right as you answer. I use my BlackBerry Storm to listen to my music, so when a call comes in, it goes right through the radio. 1.97$ Well spent.
