Issue with Auto- steering Wheel+ a Cluster question
So I am having some issues with my steering wheel. I can set it to a position I like, when I turn the car off it retracts. If i turn it on a few minutes later it will come back to where it was like its supposed to. But if I wait a few hours it stays retracted and I have to manually bring it back to where I want it. Has anyone else experienced this?
Also i could have sworn that on my '99 the cluster was always lit up even when the headlights were off. But on the '00 I have now it only lights when I turn on the headlights. I might be rememebring wrong on this, I just want to be sure.
Thanks in advance.

I had a thought on this today... Does anyone know if the steering wheel position relates to the memory seats? My memory seats dont seem to work with the remote, just the button on the door. Ill try to fix it witht he vag-com tomorrow and see what happens.
What year / model /market is your Audi? (I am assuming Audi.) I am not sure but it may matter.
I don't have a power tilt wheel, but when reading my (2000, A6 2.7t) owners manual, I remember it saying the tilt wheel IS part of the seat memory. I understand the newer (CAN-Bus) cars include the temperature settings in the memory. (Wife would like that!)
To program the remotes to match the seat memories, I would read YOUR owners manual. If you can not find it, I can find and post the procedure for a 2000, I would have to wait for wife to get home. (It IS her car...)

I just went outside and resynced the remote to the 0001 position, but the seat and wheel still dont reset with the remote. I have a 2000 4.2l if that helps.
I also figured out that the steering wheel will come back if I dont lock the doors, but if I lock them it stays retracted the next time I unlock it.

Got the owners manual, should be the same as they are both 2000's.
Note that in several places in it, it states: "The stop button must be depressed in order to store and recall the required settings." This seems backward to how mine works. It is hard to tell if the "stop" is active or not, but if you turn on the headlights the little "stop" should NOT light up.
On page 91 it says: " The memory wheel position can be stored together with the seat position. See page 77."
On page 78 it gives the procedure:
How does this match what you have been doing?
Maybe the memory in the "seat memory" isn't holding. Maybe a weak capacitor or battery inside the controller. I think these memory positions can be checked with a VAG-Com. (Check them before turning off the car. wait a few hours and check them again... )
The "convenient entry" button (just forward of the steering wheel adjustment) sounds like it COULD be adding to your problem.

Memorizing seat and mirror positions and adjustments
- Switch on the ignition -- do NOT start the engine.
- Adjust the seat.
- Adjust both outside mirrors.
- Adjust steering wheel.
- Press "memory" button and hold. At the same time press one of the three numbered recall buttons for at least one second.
- Release the buttons.
The positions are now assigned to that particular button and stored in the memory.

After you have stored the settings under a memory button, you can assign this setting to the remote control.
- Briefly press the memory button ... (Snipped ... wait for everything to get done moving.) ...
- Press the memory button, keep holding and press the unlocking button of the remote control (within about 10 seconds).
- Wait for about two seconds before releasing the memory button. ...

Hey, thanks for taking the time to post that, I tried it and it didnt work, but now that Im rereading it I may have done it wrong, Ill try again tomorrow. The convienient entry button is what makes the wheel retract. My problem is that it doesnt come back out. If i unclick the button it stays where I left it. I could just leave it out, but it would be "cooler" if it worked.
