Default joint deteriorated

Hello
I recently bought a AUDI A6 2.7 TDI S-line 06reg, lovely car but as a new owner still learning about the vehicle...
The MOT has been recently done and there is an advisory item on the slip.
OFFSIDE FRONT (SECURING CLIP LOOSE) FRONT CONSTANT VELOCITY JOINT GAITER DETERIORATED...
What does it mean, is this a major problem in the long run??
Help us out please.
Cheers

Your CV boot is torn or loose. You should address it soon. One option is to replace the boot by itself. Although the part is cheap, as in $15, the labor to do it will add additional hour compared to the replacement of the entire axle assembly. Also a typical shop will warrant the axle replacement, where as it will not warrant the condition of the CV joint if you replace the boot only.

What would you recommend i do... Replace the cv joint with the gaiter, or just the cv gaiter?
Thanks
