just bought an a6
I just bought an A6 on fleabay. It is a2000 with the 4.2L v8. I believe I got a great deal on it because it has high mileage. I have money left over to spend on maintenance. What should I replace first. I am thinking atleast the timing belt and brakes. Any more suggestions. By the way it has 125k and i got it for 7500!!!! Thanks.

RE: just bought an a6
are transmissions slip when the car shifts into the next gear. The trans slips so you don't feel the car shifting thus taking away from the
luxury factor. But when the trans slips it causes ware on the clutches in the trans. Not only dose this effect the trans clutches but the TQ converter as well. By installing a tip chip you speed the shifting prosses and increse the pump prussure in the trans (this is good for the TQ converter)
So if you have a high mileage car the clutches are worn down and the TQ is most likely in the same shape. As I am sure you all have seen as a trans gets older it tends to slip more. more pump prusure and faster shifts helps stop or pervent more ware on the trans.
last and least important is the fact that it helps stop some of the gear hunting that can occur from time to time

RE: just bought an a6
Before you start throwing your money around, I suggest you find a good independent mechanic in your area (do a search on the regional forums here and on AudiWorld to see who people recommend) to take a look at the car. You'll be setting yourself up to spend your money much more wisely if you have somebody knowledgable take a look at your new ride. As well intentioned as our recommendations may be, we're making them blind.
Good luck and welcome to the sandbox.

A big second to SouthboroAudiGuy
All my advice is just good place to start AFTER the car has had a good inspection.
Generally
The o2's go bad
The MAF's can flake out
and the control arms suck. Well they don't suck but they are a pain and they go bad
