Just got a '04 A6 3.0 Quattro.. Need Help No Manual
Hey guys, just wanted to post a few basic questions on here, we recently purchased a 04 A6 3.0 Quattro.. I don't know much about these German cars, I've got a RSX I play around in.. Anyway, no owners manual so until that comes in, I'm a little lost on a few things;
The dash display on the gauges.. Can't figure out what any of it means or how to control it. I know what the engine symbols mean, but nothing else. For example, a lot of times it displays a zero with a line and then a number followed by MPH, or MPG. Other settings it just displays a number with MPG, although this number always seems really off to me. Sometimes it displays 20:00h? I finally got it to display the temp, but i'm not sure how I did it, it read like this "-49" does that mean it thinks it negative 49 out? Or is that just how it displays the temp?
Any help on how that thing works would be great until I find a manual on ebay or something.

Ok, I figured out the first questions.. Now I am still stuck as to why the outside temp does not display? Could it be a bad sensor? I did find the sensor in front of the radiator. If was not in its housing, it was just laying. The wires are all intact. I put it back in the housing but still not temp. reading on the dash. Any other way to troubleshoot this?
Also, would this contribute to bad gas mileage? Because the car is saying we are only getting 14.8 mpg. Seems low, not driving it hard either.

The mpg calculation can be pretty far off. Mine reads a good 10% optimistic. I would fill it, reset the trip meter, run it for 1/2 tank, fill it again, and divide the miles by the number of gallons. My A6 is mostly driven highway and gets 18-20 around town and 22-24 at speed. My daughter's 2003 A4 3.0 MT6 gets 25-26 on the highway. But it is no better around town than my A6.
