Inside the trunk, remove the access door from the side trim panel. There is one nut, 10mm I think, you have to remove from the rear sheetmetal panel. Then, there's a black plastic trim piece in the trunk jamb on th side of the taillamp you pry off with a nylon pry tool. After that, you need to pull back on the assy. It may be necessary to carefully use the nylon pry tool between the front edge of the taillamp and the 1/4 panel opening. It's held by clips of a sort. Only fastener holding it is that one nut from in the trunk.
Depending on which side it is and equipment level, there may be componants (like the NAV DVD player, radio receiver, etc) in the way of the nut on the left lamp.

It is a common problem. I had it a couple of months ago. If you search the other forum, which has many more C6 owners, you will see it discussed. By the way, the entire light assembly needs to be replaced.
