Default Just picked up a 98 A6 for my brother... some questions

Well, I just picked up a silver 98 A6 with dark blue leather interior for my younger brother yesterday (he's a senior in HS). It has 128k on it, in meticulous condition. I drove it for about an hour, and everything seemed to work nicely. I have to say, that car drives beautifully!!

The timing belt was done at 84k, is there anything else it will need in the near future? Or things I should do now? Thanks in advance

a safe interval i would say for a timing belt would be 85k miles. so you have while to go. I know some last real long, but some also dont so its up to you to take that risk, i wouldnt lol. Make sure to check all hoses and lines... ESPECIALLY brake lines, i read on stoptech's website that brake cleaner can dry out lines, so if the previous owner kept it real clean in that respect watch out, trust me it sucks when you lose your brakes.. i know first hand lol. change the oil/oil filter frequently(audi recommends 7500 mile intervals for our cars, but i do 4k), its the engines blood. the only problem ive experienced with mine other than the brake lines was the windshield wipers would freeze periodically... this isnt necessarily a catastrophic thing. If it happens just turn on the wipers and give them a push quickly, if still nothing wait and try again, if nothing still the motor miught be bad or the transmission simply needs grease, thats what happened with mine i greased it up and its back to normal. good luck

Fallout, my bentley manual says for the 2000 model year V6 & V8 engines you change the belt at 104k miles. Now that might be right, but the dealer did mine at 80-90k, I don't remember. I guess I was always under the impression it needed to be changed at 85k, but thats not what the bentley manual says. Now for 2004 cars it says 75k. I would suggest changing it as soon as you can afford to.

fallout... definately do it asap, once that timing belt snaps, your engine is finished. better safe then sorry i'd say. if you bring it to the dealer theyll charge you an arm and a leg to do it. I'd say bring it to a reputable audi specialist to get it done youll save a few hundred dollars that way. good luck man
