Well, what are you going to put it on? For the most part they don't do much on Audi's (the stock intake is basically just as effective). They basically just add the noise associated with k&n intakes (the high pitched whiiirrrr of air sucking in, for the most part). Any body else know anything else?

You can make your own with parts from AutoZone for half of that.
A silicone elbow is around $ 30; a pipe is $ around 15-20; and a cupler in the same $ 10-20 range.

If you want to buy one "ready", check out EBay. You can still buy one for around $ 80-85, shipping included, which is still nearly half of your posted price.
As far as increased performance.....that's debatable.
You might as well just get only a K&N filter from AZone or OReillys since the air is forced to the air box via ducts anyway. I doubt the air flow inside the engine bay increases that much with a "free floating" filter.

+1 on just buying a drop in. We had an engineer on my350z.com site do some pretty serious testing, etc and the stock air box on the non-HR motors were as effective as any a/m CAI piece.
