Audi A6 The mid-sized Audi A6 model offers more room to the driver and passengers over the A4 line.

Let's hear about it! How many miles on your A6?

A neighbor has hinted he would sell me his A6 for $2500. It has ~150K miles on it and it has been maintained by an Audi dealer until about 6 months ago. It needs a paint job and few dings fixed but the interior is okay. He is the original owner and was hoping to reach 1,000,000 miles with it but I think he got tired of the mounting maintenance costs. He now drives a Crown Victoria. I'm not very familiar with this car but am a pretty good wrench. What kind of things should I be looking at to avoid an expense time bomb?

on the Quattros you will have ongoing costs of replacing control arms in the suspension and possibly even rear coil springs. Coil springs must match the color code in addition to make & model. If you hear an annoying squeak in the suspension, it’s most likely the lower control arms.
Check for any misfire codes and take out some spark plugs to see if there is oil getting on them. Find out when the timing belt was last changed. Enjoy

@Shawn Behanna
Thanks for the reply. I heard the timing belt on this is a tragic fail if you don't get to them in time. I suspect this dude already changed it once and its due again. I'm not interested in paying someone else to do this for me so what do I need to do it myself? Also, it would help to see complete maintenance schedule for the A6. I'd like to know what I'm for if I take this on. Is his price fair?

310K kilometers. Gearbox rebuilt last year, at about the same mileage. (Car was standing so far, this year, as I spent 4mnths in hospital, due to this dreaded Covid - thsnks to Fauci & Gates). Mechanically sound otherwise, apart from normal maintenance, ie cambelt, brakes etc.

Lots of hassles with electronics though.

Pleasant drive though

I'm the second owner of the car and the car was 90 % seen original parts. Although there was not any problems I refurbished motor and gearbox with mostly original parts (Exceptions: Pistons are not Mahle, Goetze).

Open to get in touch with same model/year owners
