Default Just bought an A6 4.2...

Well I've owned a 2004 A4 1.8T for nearly a year now. And I decided I need some extra horses for some "fun" driving.

After much research, I finally found a 2000 A6 4.2 with 105K miles, which I bought for $9,500.

The car is CarFax clean (no problems), and has perfect service records with the Rockville Porsche/Audi dealership.

Here's what has been changed:

@62K miles:
Replaced front main seal, water pump, thermostat, timing belt, tentioner rollers, bled cooling system, topped fluids, and swapped wheels.

@70K miles:
Transmission slipping - Cause: Fluid burnt and metal in it.
Replaced complete transmission, all fluids topped.

@87K miles:
Various recalls fixed, window regulators fixed, spark plugs, fluids, rear brake pads, etc.

@90K miles:
Engine Light On - Lack Of Power - Vaccuum Leak Fixed
New hose, tank, water pump, roller, thermostat, seal, cool.add., gasket, lever, beltdamper, roller, vbelt.

@93K miles:
New front brake pads and rotors, replaced purge valve, passenger window fixed, driver/passenger CV boots replaced, replaced left rear differential output seal.

@100K miles:
New alternator, right outer tie rod end.

@101K miles:
Replaced power steering pump, spark plugs, air flow meter, CK valve, tires rotated.

Not to mention a ton of oil changes before their due time, all major services completed on or before time, new tires, etc. Complete history of the car, basically. And it was never in an auction/in a dealers hands.

Drives pretty good for a year 2000, I think. Definitely much faster than my A4 which was barely pushing 240 HP.

Have all major things been changed? I hope this car will last at least till 200K miles...

Also, I have one problem with the car. On startup, there's a pretty distinct whining/belt tap-tap-tap noise coming from the engine/belt area of the hood. It goes away after a minute or so of driving. Any idea what this could be? Oil hasn't been changed since 99K miles, and now its at 105.5K...

Thanks guys. I'll get pictures up tomorrow!

v8s are noisy after 8 years anyway. All of the repairs listed with the exception of transmission issue have been done on mine as well. Haven;t done timing belt yet but soon. I am at 80K miles. It is a fantastic car and should run well if you properly maintain. I think you have had most of the major stuff, but may go through the entire cycle again if you expect to go another 100K miles. Enjoy. Also, are you running synthetic oil? With that many you should consider it and yes, it's time to change your oil. I do it every 6-7K miles since it's an older engine.
