Default Little black box on drivers front control arm

There is a black box, or at least the lever that goes to a little black box on the lower front control arm of my A6. it looks like the lever moves as the suspension goes up and down . At first i thought it was for the headlight leveling but I do not even have that option . My headlights are static with no motor to move them up and down. What else could this be for ? brake biasing maybe ?

There should also be one on the left rear. They are the suspension level sensors and they are used to level the headlights on cars with the Bi Xenon headlights. On adaptive air suspension cars there are 4 and they are used for the suspension leveling. It is possible that they are also used buy the ESP system/ABS for brake biasing as you suggested.

Well i don't have self levelers or automatic adjustable suspension option.. not to mention no esp option ..maybe it just went on all cars .. just so un-german like .. but then again I have a phone steering wheel with no phone option .. While i was in their I should have just left it off and see what it did

Iceman,

Crank your wheels all the way to the left then reach in and pop the metal strap loose. Crank the arm all the way down then go for a test drive. Let us know if you get a range error.

I checked the Bentley and from what I can tell these sensors are only used by the headlight leveling and adaptive suspension. You must be correct, all cars get them even if they do not need them.

I am going to give this a try Bob just to see what happens .. although I don't have any suspension bits that will put it back in range.

I wil try it as soon as it shows up from the Body Shop . geting a new front fender installed.
