Scratched metal plate under oil cap
Ok, when I went to go put some oil in my car, I noticed this metal plate that you can see when you remove the oil cap. It's got some scratches on it, and it looks a little crooked. What is this plate, and why would it have scratches and stuff on it?!? Is it something I should worry about?

Sorry for the bad quality pictures, but the digi cam sucks.
I have a 2001 s4 by the way.

Not exactly sure what that plates for. May be a windage tray. May also be to keep oil from coming out with the engine running and the cap off. It could just be there to make it harder for stuff to fall in. In any case, those scrathes probably arent a big deal. Some probably just used a metal funnel or hose end to fill the motor causing the scratches.
Thanx! Yeah, I figured if there was some metal debri or something flying around in there I probably would've heard it, or the car wouldn't be running anymore, but I just like to be safe rather than sorry.
I have a 2000 s4, and I have the same thing as him. When you said "more oil/filter changes needed", do you mean that the baffle plate being scratched is a bad thing, or were you just commenting on the fact that he didn't know what it was?
Ive seen that same thing on a bunch of the S4's i looked at, Came to the conclusion that is was probably from the Oil gun that some mechanic used at the audi dealership when the liquids were put in or if u got your oil changed by audi or something. Especially on previously leased vehicles i noticed it.
