I just picked up a 95 A6 Quattro. Today when driving along in 4th after about 20 minutes of driving is started Misfiring. During the misfire the check engine light flashed but did not stay on. Then after pulling over everything seemed fine, about 10 minutes later the check engine light came on but no misfire. Then i parked the car and ran into the store, once i started and drove for about 5 minutes the check engine light came back on, but no misfire. I put the climate control in diagnostic mode and looked at channel 1 and there are no codes. So how would i go about figuring out what triggered the check engine light? Would the wire jumper in the fuse box put me in a mode to get more information?

I did put Arco regular unleaded in the car, not a normal move but the car was totally out of gas when i picked it up and that was my only option.
