Default which model?

Hi everyone,
Have decided that I need to be a bit more grown up so about to go and buy an Audi A6.
So on that note, I'm looking at a 2004 RS6 and a 2006 4.2 quattro S Line. I prefer the interior if the '06 model, so is there a big difference in performance between the two, are they both equally reliable and if it was your money what would you choose?
Thanks
Dan

Well for ***** to the wall power/performance the 04 RS6. For good power and more modern looking the 2006 A6 4.2. Myself I have always liked the newer A6 over the older generation. I really like the looks of the 2005+ A6 (C6), it is of course more modern and refined than the (C5) model. On the plus side for the RS6, it is the last year of that model produced and usually the last year or so of production the cars are the most reliable (all bugs worked out).

For performance, the RS6 would blow the doors off of the A6 4.2.

2002-2004 RS6 4.2 V8 Bi turbo 444hp
2004 RS6 plus 4.2 V8 Bi turbo 473hp

2006 A6 Sline 4.2 V8 330hp 40valve version
4.2 V8 340hp 32valve FSI version

I would imagine the repair cost for the RS6 would be significantly higher over the A6 (Although the A6 would be high enough)

I guess it is up to your preferences, I would take each one out for a test drive and see which one felt best.

I have a 2005 4.2 and absolutely love it . I live up north and it is by far the best I have ever driven in the snow .

I had a 2.8 and the difference in power is quite noticeable .

This is just my opinion but I don't like turbos because there are more parts to fail so even with equal reliability , more parts=earlier failure .

I did not realize the 2004 RS6 was such a beast. I don't think I have ever seen one, but now I would like to.

Unfortunately the 04 RS6 did not make it to the states.

Actually the 2004 RS6 with 473hp was the plus version, I seen one here once at an Audi/VW enthusiasts meeting 4 years ago. It comes with a little + sign next to the RS6 badge. Also I think they were only available as station wagons, which is fine by me as I liked the C5 SW look better than the C5 Sedan.
