I'm just curious about these "drive by wire" models, what exactly causes the CC butterfly flop to stay open in a certain position (hence at the speed chosen) if not the vacuum?

Nevermind, Mike... thanks.

The electric motor within the ETC is then driven to the required position via a closed-loop control algorithm within the ECU.

I love this forum but dislike the layout because things get confused between different year A6s and motors. Many things on an A6 C4 are not the same as on an A6 C5 etc, but there are many commonalities. Throw in a few "special" features that can be found on some vehicles and things get really complicated.

I guess that is why I get frustrated when someone (not this guy) doesn’t tell us what year motor etc they have.

It even gets worse when we can't figure out how much automotive experience the person has. Sometimes there are clues like, "Is it possible to change my timing belt if I only have a set of nail clippers?" or "Will the wheels from my dad's 18 wheeler fit my Audi A6? " but usually we make an assumption that a person has some experience or knowledge.

We are all trying to be helpful... but are not experts at everything (except for Auditech79) – Additionally we have varying opinions and experiences. So let’s keep it light and not slam someone that is trying to help too hard. – Unless they act like a jerk numerous times.

I don’t always agree with chefro but he tries

Default Cruise control unit opened

Dear guys, thank you for your participation and discussions. Finally i opened the cruise control unit to check soldering quality. I followed advise on nm3210, i was a little surprised since my unit looks different. Another chips, capacitors, triods etc. Please see pix. I checked thouroughly every line -no damage or smth disconnected. So, i guess my next step should be checking the lever where cruise activation controls/buttons are. I expect your advices or links how to handle this. Thank you.

Yeah, i thought that might have been the case. You can test whether or not the stalk is working from the cables that run to the module there (so you don't have to take anything apart). Obviously if that module isn't getting the right signals - it's not going to work. I don't know which contacts mean what off hand, but I know that there was something about it somewhere, i'll try to look...
