Default Is My A6 Missing an Interior Part?

Hi folks,

Sorry to ask a stupid question, but I think my car is missing a drawer or compartment cover for the storage area underneath the steering wheel.

I was reading through posts about an Owner's Manual hoping to find a link to download one for free, and found this post:
"Sorry if you already know this, but have you looked in the compartment underneath the steering wheel? Many new A6 owners do not know that the manual is usually stored there and are happy to discover it there when it's pointed out."

I found the slotunder my steering wheel, but there's no drawer or compartment cover like the glove box cover. Am I missing something? Is this storage area supposed to be uncovered? I'd be shocked if it is.

What is my carmissing and is there a good and inexpensive source for such a part? I'll try to work it out with the dealer from whom I purchased the car, but they might be jackasses about it.

Thanks,
Mark

nope, you're not missing anything. it's typically where audi stores the owner's manuals, and there isn't any sort of cover or door for it. most people don't even know it's there until they're told where to look for it.

Whew! That's a relief. I was contemplating how to contact the dealer who sold me the car and discuss how to get them to pay for it. Thankfully, that isn't necessary.

I am thinking maybe someone can make one out of wood or plastic and then sell it on the forum. I wonder if anyone would buy it? And if so, how much do they think it is worth? Maybe $5 or $10 depending on the material. Plastic would be cheapest, but wood would be more expensive. Or, maybe it isn't worth it at all. What do you think?

Regardless, I'm happy I don't have any worries about this non-existent part.

Thanks again guys.

Regards,
Mark

One of the problem we have in the A6 section is that the cars changed a few times over the years so what might be true for a 96 A6 is not always the same for a 2000 or 2006 etc. It is very important for people to give some simple info about their vehicle like year, motor, model, etc. when asking a question. It would make it easier for people to giveintelligence answers..

OK OK Sorry I took the comment too far.[:'(]

I would NOT buy a cover. I put the manual in one of the trunk side storage compartments to keep it out of the way and safe. You might check in there foryour manual as well.
