Guys, thank you for your inputs. I brought my car to the Audi dealer in Houston and they are working on it. The service representative said in addition to the new battery, they had to change a CV boot and the brake pads (I hope all that is covered in my warranty).

I have been driving a loaner car given by the dealer for the past couple of days; its a 2006 Audi A6 Avant with 5000 miles on it. Boy, it is a lot easier and more fun to drive than my '03 A6 sedan. It isinfinitely easier to park in tight spaces; I don't need any effort to turn the steering wheel at all unlike my own car with which I struggle to turn the steering wheel, especially if it is at a stand still. So I talked to the service manager and he said there have been a lot of improvements since '03 (C5) and that the newer cars have better steering '06 (C6), so it is just easier to drive the newer ones and that there is nothing wrong with my older car, it is just the way it is. Does anybody know anything about any steering improvements made on the C6s?
just find someone with a Vag-com and bump up the steering boost value. definitely a great program, i just bought mine a week ago. anyways, you can change the steering boost value either up or down, so you can make it much easier to steer, practically with your pinky, or you can make it much harder, which in my opinion feels better to me if i'm traveling quite fast.

I don't know anybody that drives an Audi. Do you know if the dealer will change the steering boost value if I ask him to? Just wondering how much it might cost me?

I find it strange that you feel your c5 has stiff steering. My 00 c5 has such light steering I can drive/park it with my pinky. I think my steering is way way way to easy to turn. If the c6's are even lighter, I would be afraid to sneeze in my car.

How can I get my car to have light steering like that? I have had the Audi for 1 week now and I am in a new city. So I don't know anybody that owns an Audi or that might have the Vag-Com software. Again will the Audi dealer be able to work on it and makethe steeringlighter? If yes, how much will it cost me?

I almost feel like a truck driver when I try to park my car in the small parking spots in my apartment complex. My '96 Nissan was easier to drive than my Audi! Any kind of input is really appreciated. Please help a newbie out.

Someone above mentioned using the vag-com to modify the assist value, I have never looked into it but am personally intrigued to possibly turn my boost down. I have also read about people removing the ps assist relay to firm up the steering. I think that is probably the first place to look. Do a search for steering relay and I would guess you can find its location and see if it is missing. I seriously can park my car with my pinky, it reminds me of my 1981 Buick that was so over boosted it seemed dangerous.

I spoke with the dealer yesterday. He said that they would not mess with the steering assist value. He said they could get into liability trouble if they change the factory defaults. He suggested that I should go to an independent mechanic to get it done. But I am slowly getting used to the stiff steering. Itis only hard when I try to park, but on the freeways it feels good and stable.

Remember that the Vag Com that has been discussed on here is a valuable tool. Search your region on the main forum for someone that has a Vag Com and see if you can hook up. I think I'm going to get my Vag Com at the end of the month.
