Default NASTY Cabin Air Filter

Was wondering if any of ya'll would know whether a cabin air filter is an original part? Did I mention it is NASTY, I mean yuck!! That wife of mine needs to take better care of this thing. ;O)

Anyway, it has the Audi logo followed by three sets of large numbers/letters (the actual part # I'm told, but I can't read most of it) 4B? 719 439 A (guessing) which is followed by some smaller numbers 97-046-012578 (also a guess). Given this car is a 98 Quattro (built in Nov. 97), the first things that comes to mind is that "97" may mean this is the original cabin air filter.

The A/C seems fine and dandy and I'm picking up a new filter tomorrow, but I'm wicked curious if this thing is the original filter.

99.98% of Audi's have the cabin origional filter so unless the previous owner was a clean nut I'd guess that it is origional. If you keep it for another 15 years it will be an antique cabin filter and you'll have a coffee table piece - If you can stand the smell!

It is so nasty with so much dirt in it I think there is a mole and some worms living in the thing!

Probably original. I recently purchased a 2000 A6 with the original cabin filter in it to just stuffed full of pine needles and I even found a cigarette butt in there(not sure how it got to there). Anyways, that part could be the original or they could have had it replaced at the dealer and the part # would be the same. My bet is that it is original, 98% of people never change there cabin filters simply because they dont know that they exist.

Knew the '03 Highlander had one, replaced it recently, and until today thought that one was fairly gross. This one makes that one look darn near brand spanking new!!

Fishing - now that's funny!
