Default Navigation System Installation

I'm looking at buying the complete navigation system and controls from an 01 A6 2.7 and installing it in my 04 A6 2.7 that has the Symphony Radio. Has anyone here ever done this? And if so how hard is it to do, will I need to add any extra wiring, will I lose the 6 disc changer, what else can the navigation system do, and how would I go about installing the controls? Sorry, I have never undertaken a job like this and need advice, the most I've ever done is replace speakers on a couple of cars.

for most after market navigation units, it's plug and play for the specific car, but it's better to inquire about as much info as you can to see if it can fulfill your requests from the seller.

Default 2003 A6 Symphony 2 Replacement with Aftermarket Navigation Unit

I'm hoping to find some expertise out there in the community for a small project i am working on this week. I've decided that I would like some of the "modern" features of a system that includes GPS, Bluetooth and an iPod attachment so I'm replacing the original Symphony 2 radio in my 2003 A6 with an aftermarket unit. I have a host of questions:

1. My current system has very simple wiring that is behind the radio -- two small harnesses, one diversity antennae and one FM50U antennae input. There is, however, something that says Bose in the trunk of the car on the right side behind a removable panel. I'm confused as otherwise I don't have lots of speakers in the car as I don't believe I have what's called the "Bose system". What is this?

2. My aftermarket radio was supplied with a wiring harness and while the existing harnesses for the car appear to clip right in, nothing happens! I'm not sure how to test if the wires are set up correctly. Does anyone have a wiring chart or guide for installing an aftermarket nav/radio to replace the Symphony 2?

Any advice or web site referrals would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Alex
