Need advice on which A6 platform can be modded for above 500 bhp
Greetings Gurus. Ok I currently have a 2005 A6 3.2 with 76,000 miles on it. I know I should just get a used S6 and just call it quits with all the horsepower it has. But I don't want to look like a fool at a car show trying to dyno a stocked car (that's what vehicle specs are for right?).
Should I just keep my current v6? And if so, what can I do to get monster gains close to or above 500bhp? Or if I should chose a different A6 model and start there, which one should I choose? (v6, v8, v10?)

A lot of ppl tell me that. I know these cars are expensive (thats why I do overtime so I can continue to indulge in my lil luxury- some ppl splurge at the mall, I luv my Audi). Lol
What if I got an '09 A6 4.2? With a 350 base HP it can be boosted to the high 400's no?

I looked into boosting my 2002 4.2 a6 a while back and the only very interesting kick was slapping a supercharger in it which would run me anywhere from $5k+. Once you do that, you are looking and some other issues as well which will just burn a hole in your pocket. Tranny is just not built for that much power so you will have to start taking it apart and upgrading it, which is not only expensive but also a PITA.
I'm not a tuner or a good mechanic so I rely a lot on the expertise of a friend of mine and I think he knows his stuff.
I would agree with hxgaser, not worth it putting all this money in a car like this. You can buy a cheaper car and cheaper parts and get more out of it. I love my a6 to death but there are limits.

Thanks for the advice. Maybe I shud hold on to the v6 until the end of the year when prices for used cars r lowered and get a bigger engine. I guess I can be happy with a chipped v8 on a newer model.
Geez how come we can't get the friggin RS6 over here yet there's a caddy pushing 550+HP around town....smfh

Just a B5 guy sifting though the forums, but I have something to add... My first two thoughts for the A6 was the 2.7T, or the '03 RS6, which is a 4.2 V8 Twin Turbo, about 450 stock, and I'm sure a custom tune will get you to 550 HP easily.
The 2.7T would be the cheaper way to go.
My personal preference would be the 5.2 V10 S6, but not much modding to be had there...
I'll go back to the B5 section now.

Lots of money and almost changed everything
comes a beautiful piece of engine... over 550HP.

Thanks PPGoal. I initially wanted the '03 rs6 but I'm very much partial to the bodies of the newer models. If they were offered in a C6 style I would ****** one in a heartbeat.
And thanks BradTyler. When the prices drop again in the winter I will look for the a used s6.
Sweet video! The guys in my auto crew would wet their pants if they heard that purr!
