Default Need your opinion...

My 04 Audi A6 3.0 FWD has some engine / transmission mount issues. I took it to a mechanic to do a multi-point inspection and was told all the mounts are bad. Also he said something about a buffer (engine front) also needs to be replaced as soon as possible. Where is this buffer located and possible part#?

He quoted me around $900 (parts and labor) to get them replaced.

My question now is, can I replace them by myself? Is it too hard or does anyone have a step by step procedure that is willing to share?

Another thing he said was the front struts were bad and one has started to leak. I guess that can be changed by myself....just have to rent the strut spring compressing tool.

Please let me know on the mounts.

Thanks.

Anybody out there that might know more about the engine & transmission mounts?

Also, want to know where the engine buffer / bushing mount is located.

Thanks.

The front engine mounts are #5 in the diagram and are recommended to be replaced in pairs as they are hydro mounts. If one goes bad Audi feels the other is not far behind. They are 94.40 each for internet pricing and in stock. #19 is the front buffer, 8.90 in stock also. The trans mounts depend on which type of auto trans you have, but they seem to run 76.63 for the most common part number. Those mounts are on the the left and right side of the trans and mounted from bracket to chassis.

Thanks Jeff, I'm still thinking whether to go with hydro motor mounts or the solid rubber ones (aftermarkets) and also not sure which is good and reliable either.

Thanks.
