Oh, and another thing (more so for the turbo models): these are cars for the open road in my opinion.
I don't know how A3s and A4s fair as far as reliability and longevity when subjected to constant and daily short trips, but exclusive city driving is not the A6s' (at least older models) cookie cutter.

bottom line you can get 250K out of it but you will have to put considerable money into it.

At 116K you need to do the timing belt and water pump like everyone is telling you. I would also change all the fluids and filters. These cars also need to have everything rubber replaced at this age as well hoses seals gaskets etc. Not fun and labor intensive, you can also expect the periodic sensor to go bad.

Honestly these are great cars for mechanics that like to work on cars. If you can work on them you have a great shot at getting to 300K if not your headed to $-0 if you know what I mean.

Hopefully you can get it's service/repair history..there's a good chance they changed the TB when they put in the water pump but you need to verify this..I'm not sure if the TB distroys the engine or just stops it from working but someone here knows. I agree the A6 is at it's very best on the open road..little short drives just carbon it up so get out and drive it and enjoy a wonderful car..but like *any car with mileage..certain things need to be done that pertain and maintain the Audi all of which you'll learn here. Enjoy
