Default New to Audis, Looking for advice

I'm pretty much new to Audis, so I was hoping I could get some advice from others in the know. I've been eyeing a 2000 A6 2.8 Avant to replace my current daily driver. It has a clean carfax which shows pretty regular maintenance and the odo reads 142,000. Exterior is in good condition and the inside shows normal wear and tear. All the power options (windows and sunroof) work normally. New pads/rotors were put on recently.

There is a slight groaning/noise coming from the steering column when I test drove it earlier today. Also, the LCD dash display is kind of wonky, which I've already read is a fairly common occurrence with Audis. Other than some minor interior cosmetic issues and the noise from the column, it seems like a decent car.

I'd like to know what are some things I should be on the look out for with a car at this mileage? Thanks in advance for the help.

check to see when the timing service was done. at 142K, it should have already been done once and may be coming due again ~$1K job (or a few hundred to DIY)

LCD is definitely a common issue, there are a couple of viable solutions, or you can just live with it.

groaning from the steering column is a pretty generic symptom. not something that can really be diagnosed over the internets.

The 2.8 is a very solid motor. it most likely has a lot of life left in it. if the car has been well maintained it should not give you much trouble.

the standard recommendation is to find an independent euro shop in your area and ask them to do a pre-purchase inspection. it may cost you $100 but it is well worth the investment if they find something major. above all, trust your instincts, if something seems wrong, it probably is.
