Default New brakes and rotors, how can I turn off brake light?

I own a 1998 A6 2.8L Quattro. Recently I had the brake pads and rotors replaced. My buddy who did the work noticed that the pads were "worn down to the sensors," as he called it. He told me that is why my brake light is on (on the dash).

I want to shut the brake light off since I have had the work done, but I don't want to pay a dealership $100 for an on-board computer reset. I tried going to AutoZone, but they can only provide free error codes, not reset the computer.

I am interested in purchasing a VAG COM product, but I am not sure which one will fit my car, or if it will even do what I want it to do, which is reset my computer. The product I need must have the ability to reset the computer so that my car knows I have replaced the worn brakes.

Thanks in advance for any information that you can share with me.

sounds like you didn't get pads w/ sensors?

I'm not positive but you might need to wire in a resistor to turn off the wear sensor display

if you got the right pads you should have got sensors with em. i had sensors on mine but i had to re-wire them myself because the connectors didnt match up, but it should go off automatically when you connect the new pads.. so yea i would take off the pads and get the right ones with the sensors.. i hated seeing that damn light and having a beep when i would go into drive or reverse.

Default Is the VAG COM route worth trying?

I want to thank oc_audica and afstud6900 for their info so far.

Do you think getting a VAG COM cable and software would help? Do these products have the ability to reset the on-board computer?

www.ecstuning.com look under brakes/OEM

This ECS wiring harness plugs right into the car harness & eliminates the brake pad sensor light by proving a continuous loop. Basically this is the brake pad harness that is on a set of brake pads minus the pads.

I'm not sure there is a vag-com code that would eliminate this.
