I'll save you a few bucks here...I had a 2001 2.7T and wanted the exposed exhaust tip look. A local body shop guy cut the bumper for me (I did not need the 2002 bumper replacement since mine was not damaged), and he cut off the downturns and welded on Magnaflow tips. I did not change anything with the heat shield, etc. Simple cut and weld. No issues whatsoever.

Now, if you had the 2002 rear bumper put on, I am not sure you really NEED the 2002 heat shield, although it would not hurt to consult with a local body shop to help you.

This is what my 2001 2.7T looked like with the exposed tips:

I would say do it yourself and save the money. I had my bumper cut and the exhaust fitted. I would go with nice tips as well. Although I don't have nice tips I am considering it......not only tips but a rear lip spoiler as well. Thanks to Boston driver and his pic....

I would post a pic but I cant seem to figgure it out at this time

BD has the same tips I do.( I think, fromthe look of them)They are 4" double walled angle cut magnaflow tips withMagnaflow Performance embossed on the top. They are really sharp. Go to www.magnaflow.com to take a look or better yet go to www.hottexhaust.com and order them there. They were about $80 shipped. The 4" look great on the wide body 4.2 but look funny on the 2.7t or lesser. For those models I would stick with 3".....just my .02 cents.

BTW--Those tips are 304 Stainless and will never stain or rust. Just keep them clean and rub them down with mothers stainless polish every 4-5 washes or so. They will shine for the life of the car. Cheaper tips cannot say the same thing....Ya get what ya pay for. I will get a picture up tomorrow when its light out.
