New owner has a question
Okay I traveled 3 hours and picked up a 2000 a6 for 3500. Prestine condition and loving the car. The one problem was when slowing down there seemed to be a slight bump between the 3rd and 2nd gears. The person who sold me the car said the battery had died and it started right after that. Supposly the dealer told him the computer needed to be upraded. And would just charge him a hour of service to complete this. Now I never owned a audio but owned plenty of other makes and never expierenced anything like this. I'm wondering does this sound right and is it a common problem. Your help and opinion is appreciated.
I would take the car to a dealership or an independent shop specialized in European cars and have the car scanned. Probably it has some tranny problem codes stored. I highly doubt a dead battery would cause a problem in the shift pattern, unless it screws up somehow the TCM.
Have no idea why people sell their Audis in pristine condition, unless they move to a brand new one or they got expensive to fix problems.
What he told you doesn't sound too believable as being the only reason he sold the car. If just a computer upgrade and only one hour woth of labor charge would have fixed the problem, why didn't he do it? It wouldn't have been more than $ 200, and probably that would represent the top hourly rate in the industry.
Have the car scanned to know exactly what codes you have stored in the memory.
Welcome to the forum and congrats for your purchase.
