Newbie A6 3.0 Qs
Newbie alert!!!
The wife is looking for a new to her car, she's in the market for a fairly luxurious, powerful, reliable sedan, and she's coming from a Northstar (275hp) powered Cadillac Eldorado. We found a 2002 A6 3.0 with less than 40K on the clock, and the price seems reasonable.
Is there anything I shouldn't like about this car? Anything specific I should have checked out? I will take it for a PPI before I buy, but thought you guys might have more insight than the average wrench.
TIA,
John

The timing belt/tensioner/water pump for that model year car is 90K. It is advised to do beforehand and will cost anywhere from 800-1000 depending on dthe dealer/INDY etc. But I have a question..Have you test drove the car? She will find everything she is looking for except high performance. Coming out of a 275 HP car she will lose some pull (torque) ina 3 liter engine.Check out the 2.7T or 4.2

Knowing she had the Eldo with the Northstar..........
If you can afford a few more shimolians, and accept getting 1-2 mpg less, I think that your wifemight be happier with a A6 4.2
You might want to compare the 3.0 and the 4.2 back-to-back.

Muchas gracias guys!
We will test drive the car today, if the dealers are open. The good thing is, the 3.0 is directly across the street from the local Audi dealer, so we will test drive different models/engine packages back to back.
Hopefully, I'll be back on here in the not too distant future, unless she buys another Caddy......
