I have a C4 A6Q 2.8. I noticed that sometimes when turning around a left-hand bend, I get a slight shake in the steering wheel. This only happens at about 30 mph. It is not the wheels needing a balance. Also, if I jerk the wheel left and right while going 20 or above, I hear and slightly feel a glunk under the car. Does anyone have any ideas about what either or both could be? I put it in the air, and everything looks ok--bushings etc.

 

Did you look at the cv boots closely to see if they are ripped or torn throwing grease everywhere?

How about your front suspension bushes or transmission mountings?

 

I'm not too sure about the trans mount, but the bump is from the front, not near the trans mount. But, one other clue is thatit does it with a sudden press of the gas while in reverse. That sounds, to me anyway, kinda like the stabilizer bar bushing. But, they look ok. that is the thing. Mabybe my eyes are playing games with me. whatever is moving is only evident while the car is actually moving. I don't know.

I will wait until it gets worse, then maybe it will become more noticeable and easier to find.

Fornow, I will replace the timing belt.
