Default Noob, Some Questions on an 01 A6 2.7T

Tomorrow I am going to test drive an 01 A6 2.7T Quattro, 6-speed. I am younger and am crossed between sticking with Bmw and getting an 01' 328ci which I am leaning toward or going for an A6. I like to drive alot and have my friends with me. How is the after marketing for the A6? It's loaded at has almost 85K but the dealer is asking $13,000.00. Is there anything I should look out for? Should I have any problems with miles this high? Thanks

Hey BimmerMan3,
Usually people make the comparison/try to decide between a A6 and a 5-series BMW but that's cool....
I have an '01 A6 2.7T but only 36kmi and have no problems. My suggestion would be to definitely take the Audi to a dealership and have them do a thorough diagnostic check. The money you pay for this service will surely be well worth it - if nothing else, it will give you an indication of what repairs may come up in the future...
Just FYI - I have been extremely happy with my A6..

Good Luck,
Roland

Welcome to Audi Forums BimmerMan3!

Since you're new... check out the START HERE! (click this link) link to get a rundown of the lingo/vocab here at audiforums.

Then be sure to search the archives when you have a question. Chances are the question has been asked before (probably several times) and the archives will have plenty of information to answer your question. If you still need answers, please feel free to ask questions.

Don't feel intimidated; we are all a bunch of pretty cool guys (and gals). Feel free to post advice, comments, ideas, suggestions, and even pics.
================================================== ==========================================

The A6 2.7t is a great choice. Good size vehicle and great power.
At 85K, the timing belt should have been done already. If not, you will be looking at another $1000+ job, but you will have a well tuned car then. The control arms and tie rods should be checked and, of course, you should have the car's ecu scanned for codes after it is driven for 15+ miles. Any issues with the turbos will be self evident or, at least, show up when the ecu is scanned for codes.
Good luck.

I have a 2001 A6 2.7T 6 spd 69000 miles. Have fault codes checked. Only problem I have had is a bad coolant temp sensor, 059-919-501-A (effects emissions programing)$10.94 parts+$184 labor. I have the Audi recommended maint page in fornt of me it states at 80K air claner,oil/filter change(every10K), check trans final drive fluid, repace brake fluid every 2 yrs, spark plugs(every 40K) and ribbed belt replace. Tiiming belt is at 105k. Most of the2.7t owners get the timing water pump, anti freeze replced at 80k service because of the savings on the labor. St Louis dealership offered less than $900 for the whole job. Dealers vary some have lost experienced staff to private shops just as BMW dealers have. It pays to ask around the local clubs for the gouge. I own a 2000 528 wagon which which handles better however the 2.7T 6spd is greater on the fun factor and I NEVER worry about wet roads or snow/ice/gravel/sand and uneven traction. This is where the Audi shines. 13K is a good deal if the body and interior are ok. If you want to get radical the modifications with little cash bring even more improvements to a great car. As other members state have it checked at an Audi dealer, work it into your deal.

First of all hobart, the dealer will rob you blind for that coolant sensor!! See my DIY tech article on this part. It's a $5 part and takes five minutes to replace!!

I don't know if you're reading the info correctly, but I have never heard of the timing belt needing to be replaced at such a high mileage. Most guys I know have it done between 60 and 75K miles. Some have stretched their budgets and waited until 90K, though.
