Oil Issue
99 Audi A6 2.8
I'm new here so I hope I put this in the correct area.
Okay guys I need some help. About a week ago the red oil pressure light came on blinked 3 times and went off. I did an oil change and changed the oil pressure sensor. The light has not come back since. I drive very short distances with my car. Once the car warms up when i drive further I can smell oil. I check my oil and its fine not low. I'm about to take it to a shop but would like to try a few things first if I am able myself. Sometimes the Oil smell is very strong other times it is not strong at all. Doesn't look like my valve covers are leaking but on my the one to the right there is some oil in the area but not of the left. Any insight on this would be fantastic.

Welcome to audi forums! Is it a burning oil smell? If so then your passenger side cam chain tensioner gasket is leaking onto the exhaust and when it heats up you get the smell. Before going out and tearing the engine apart have you checked your crankcase breather system? Sometimes the hoses and suction pump get partially clogged and raise crankcase pressure thus causing it to release around your oil seals along with oil (cams crankshaft valve covers cam chain tensioner seals) just a heads up if the hoses are original they will be very very brittle so be careful when touching them. With that said start there and work your way up replacing the crankcase breather system is not hard. By the way what's the mileage on your A6?
