Is it okay to install the MSD ignition system?
MSD ignition for old V8 pretty much replaced old mechanical point type ignition to electronic ignition. A6s already have electronic ignition... not to mention that MSD will not work period.
I would think the engine management in Audis are a lot more sophisticated that MSD ignition.

Deffinitly don't need the MSD. you have coil pack ign. The MSD acts as a electricbooster for plug wires. you have a booster built in (your coil pack on top of your spark plug.
Nice idea to try and get more power. but in the end you are all set. if you are looking for more power get a chip from Vast Performance ECU and TCU

Im a V8 guy and I was told the chip dose little to nothing. I have a vast TCU and ECU they both make a big difference. As for the 2.8 anyting will help : ) but I know what you are talking about not much in the power department
Which year A6 2.8 do you have? There is not much information at www.msdignition.com for Audi. they do have the MSD Digital DIS-4 Plus PN62152 for only $534.77. Hellically wound sparkplug wires are required, too limit radio interference. The only reason to install this ignition, would be if you have a problem with fouled sparkplugs on a high mileage engine. I have a 1989 Ford station wagon with the MSD ignition and Ford racing sparkplug wires with 235,000 miles. It blew the stock ignition coil, so I had to put in an MSD coil. However, it took a few years before the coil blew. Unfortunately, I don't have any information on the Audi coils or sparkplug wires. Also, without anadapter wiring harness for Audi, the installation is more difficult to undo should the MSD ignition malfunction.
