performance of the 2.7T

performance of the 2.7T
i am considering buying either a 1.8T a4, or 2.7T a6. I like the smaller car, but I like the faster motor as well.
I was wondering if any of you guys have raced anything with your A6 or gone to the track, with the APR stage 1 chip. the one that ups your hp/tq from 250/258 to 318/382 crank. I know it weighs 3800lbs, and I haven't driven one stock yet so I was curious if it could take an STi / Evo / anything
i don't want to sound redundant or anything, I did search last night for this topic but nothing worth reading..
I have lurked on this site for a while now, while I'm at work and occassionally when I'm at home, and I have noticed that when new members post the same things over and over again, about reliability issues, etc... you all have been pretty courteous in your replies. This is something that I haven't experienced on my maxima forum. everyone is a D***. thanks again guys.

RE: performance of the 2.7T
I got to ride in a 2.7T A6 with GIAC, DVs, Intake and Exhaust the other day. It was a TON of fun. Very fast! Almost made me wish I had an A6 instead of my S4 (for the extra roomyness). I guess I'm gonna have to get a chip.
Anyway, the A6 responds great to upgrades. If you want a civilized performance luxury sedan and can spend a little extra for aftermarket upgrades I'd definetly recommend the 2.7T A6.

1.8T is a stronig reliable motor but I like the A6 better for room and looks. personal choice though and depends on your needs. If you don'tneed size and liek the look for the A4, then get the A4 and mod it... you can a lot of HP out of that thing! and it is lighter and smaller to throw arond in the twisties!

RE: performance of the 2.7T
I have used accelerometers to measure perf, not track yet, and ran other cars...
Just this past week-end, I ran a 5.43 to 60mph with a not so hot 60ft of 1.9. 1/4 miles cam at 14 seconds... GOING Uphill
These numbers could be better if I launched my car better and had a better 60ft of course, but it gives you an idea.
From a car comparo, I ran S60R's, 540's, 350Z, V8 Camaros and Mustangs and a 745 with various margin of success. i also accelerated faster than a chipped A6 sline with 45k miles when passing a truck up a hill. But mine is an Auto and you can get better numbers with a 2.7T 6 spd. It is not a red light racer IMO and does much better in acceleration on the road/HWY IMO

RE: performance of the 2.7T
Somewhere I read that there is only about 300 lbs difference between the A4 and A6. IMHO, your comfort will be vastly better in the roomier A6. Acceleration should be about the same. Handling on the A4 is probably better. But if you can find and chip an S4 with the 2.7T, it will probably be faster because of the weight advantage.

S4 6MT 3593 lbs / A6 6MT 3759 lbs = 166 lbs difference
Performance is very similar...I like the extra room

2000 Audi A6 weighs in at 3,759lbs. The 2000 S4 at 3,593. Not a lot of difference. The A6 2.7T manual is also supposed to make 0-60 in 6 seconds. Where the S4 is 5.6 seconds. So it's a really close match apparently.
Quarter mile times for the A6 that I could find were 14.6 and the S4s are something like 14.2. Not a lot of difference really. LikeI said above...kinda makes me with I got the A6 for the extra backseat space.
Where the S4 would really pull ahead is in the twists and turns.

RE: performance of the 2.7T
Peformance is BETTER in both handling and straight line (about 0.5 seconds) b/w S4 and A6.
BUT if yuo read the original post, he is NOT talking about the S4, but a A4 1.8 so you'd have tocompare #s b/w A4a.8 and A6 2.7t.
Stock A6 is faster and more comfortable but A4 is lighter and with some mods... will move
2 different cars, really depends on his needs or what he is looking for.

RE: performance of the 2.7T
I ran my stock 2.7T against my friends 2002 GS 430 and only got down about 1/2 - 1 car length to about 80mph from a dead stop. I had some bad turbo lag too from them not being warmed up to optimal temp. I'd take the A6 over the S4 any day if interior space is of any importance to you. I had an A4 and loved it, but just too small inside.
