Default Possible source of oil leak 2.7T?

After crawling under the car it appears the entire under side of the car is covered with oil. It also appears to be coming from higher up on the engine than the filter and pan. Possibly above the exhaust header on passenger side causing smoke from engine. Is there a particular area to look at that could be causing the leak.
Thanks,
Doug

There are lots of places that could leak oil. Best bet is to clean the engine and then look for the source. If it is up high, it could be a valve cover gasket.

I have an 2000 A6 2.7T
First off I have done A LOT on my car my self because of you guys so thank you.
I bought the car knowing that the cam cover seal needed to be changed I did both sides. Before I did them the motor did smoke but no oil on the ground. After I changed them I noticed oil on the ground when I returned from driving it in two places. 1 on the passenger side under the front bumper. 2 on the drivers side under the front bumper. So I then changed the plug on the drivers side rear (hockey puck looking piece) so now the drivers side is not leaking but the passenger side obviously is still leaking. Any suggestions?

As ppgoal indicated, there are several common leak prone locations. Clean & look best approach to be sure. Common up-high locations are valve cover gasket + can tensioner gasket + cam tensioner half-moon seal + cam cap plugs (hockey puck) + cam shaft seals.
Sounds like you only did cam cap plug on DS & not PS. Both bank 1 & 2 are similar but flipped Front-Back, so both sides have similar leak points. Cam Caps are on PS too, but as mentioned, there could be other leak sources as well.
