Default Power steering issue?

I've noticed over the last week or so a noticeable whine when turning my wheels. Of course, I assume this to be the power steering. Its not terribly loud but defiantly way more noticeable whine. However, still seems to work fine. I checked the fluid level and do not see anything wrong there. Should I be worried? Also, its its been more on the cool side, however, seems to make that noise still even after things have been warmed up. Any DIY tricks? Thanks!

PS) This is a 2004 A6 3.0L

Over fill the resevoir slightly. Use the correct fluid! If that doesn't work, replace all of your hose clamps as one is sucking air.

Sorry for the delay. I will look into that this weekend. I read another post about others having that same problem when its colder then 45F which is around the same temp that it happens to me. Thanks!

There is an improved fluid from Audi G4000 it helps limit the whine or cavitation. Change the fluid also check the clamps at the top of the pump and replace them with stainless steel non- perforated clamps Audi will have those also or I bought mine at west marine. Actually replace all of the ear type clamps if they leak the system will suck in air and whine.

It could be your power steering pump on the way out. On my caddy I have had good results with Lucas Power Steering additive. Although I am not sure if Audi likes that sort of thing.

I have a 93 chevy Cheyenne 1500, and I know when the ps pump go's Ive replaced mine it sounds like more than ur pump going out there if you here grinding or any thing like that park it, you might have a steering problem, I suggest you get it to a shop, get a test ran on it (cost around 50-100 dollars).
