Default propeller shaft part #???

i have a 2000 a6 2.8L quattro avant automatic

anyone know the exact part number of the propeller shaft?

i've had that marble in a paint can/ clicking noise going on for some time now...haven't done anything about it. mainly it's been just a sound annoyance, how sketchy is it to just leave it alone?

i've seen some pretty cheap props on ebay part # 8D0 521 101 D and H not sure if this fits my car.

Anyone know for sure?

Well, there's this one, but it does still have the propeller attached. Works pretty good if you have a trailer hitch....

I had the same problem. Dealer wanted $1200. Bought at a junk yard for $160. Been over a year and running just fine. My front CV joint on the shaft was bad.

even if i find one, seems like a pain in the *** job to do by yourself w/ only car jacks and ramps. did you install it yourself? if so did you use the alignment tool to keep the shaft from bending? i looks like you can buy the new cv joints for it...wonder if i can just replace that.

No, I had it done. Labor was $250. The mechanic took it off. I took it to the junk yard and matched it up and took it back to my mechanic. I think the dealer told me they only sold the entire shaft. 2 shafts really with the u joint in the center & the cv joints on either end as I recall. The replacment was a little different. I think the rear shaft was a little smaller diameter than the front shaft but the lenth was the same & the bolt holes lined up. I was pleased with the cost, $416 total.

Hhhmmmm. My apologies. I thought I saw it in there but I guess not. Anyway, from VAGCAT:

4B0521106F
propeller shaft
/ 5-speed automatic: AKC,AFB,AKN, ATX,AGE,APR, AQD,AMX,ARN, ASM,APZ,AMM, APS,ARJ,AML, APC,AJK,ALG, ACK,APB,AJK, AZA,AGA,APC, ALF,AJG,ALW AKE

4B3521101E

/ 5-speed automatic: ARS,AQJ,ANK, ASG

Does anyone know what these codes refer to?

Bob
