Default Pros and Cons of Chipping

Someone asked for Pros and Cons of being chipped, so I'm reposting it as a new thread. If it was talked about already, then my bad.

PROS.
1.) 70 extra hp = Speed = more fun to drive

CONS
1.) Voids any warranty that you might have (about $1700-$2400 for a aftermarket warranty)(Dealer Warranty). http://www.giacusa.com/faq.php(Question #6)

2.) Deal won't installed (if your a dealer person like me)

3.) You might lose money, $500-$1000 for the chipif the dealer flash it and $1700-$2400 for the warranties

4.) Engine strain which can led toengine problemsand without a warranty equals a whole lot of money

5.) Need to upgrade your brake system (Basically just the brake lines and pads) so you can stopthe 4000 lbs cars

6.) You must replace the throttle boby boot ($40-$60 or$300 for a bipipe)and the diverter valves ($40-$150)(x2)

PROS:
LOTS of extra power and even more TORQUE!
BY Far best mod for the $.. seems too good to be true.
Limited upgrades increase reliability ( 2 N710 DVs for $60 and $50 TBB)
Great driveability for the APR chip
ONly 20 mintes flash

Cons:
Slightly limited Turbo life I guess if all proper upgrades and warm ups/Cool downs are done as well as proper maintenance with good oil.
Can impact warranty
?
?
?

#5 makes sense to a point. The car's weight doesn't change any from adding the chip. I'd argue you aren't driving any faster (ok-maybe some of you testing the removed governor), you are just getting up to speed more quickly. If you are autocrossing and such, a brake upgrade is a must anyway. As a daily driver, do you really have to upgrade the brakes upon chipping? I'm a fan of SS brake lines and will probably do theses anyway. But no big $$$ big brake kit for me.

I didnt mean the whole brake system, I know it sounded like i was, so I changed it to brake lines and pads...your right, big brake kits on a daily driver is a waste

I like the SS brake lines I put on. Helped a lot on a mountain ride. Affordable mod too.

Oh, where to start....

The DV's & TBB are weak, even for stock boost, & still fail on a stock car. Really, anyone who has a 2.7t should upgrade them!!!!!
The brakes are more then capable of stopping the car. Just do to the chip, you are not going to be driving around @ 150mph all the time. You should be going about the same speed, just getting there faster.

I do not believe they kill the turbo's any faster, unless you are in boost all the time. I drive the car easier with the chip, I have a TON of torque down low now, & do not have to shift or get up in the RPM"s any more. We all know, it's HEAT that is the enemy. I rarely take my car over 3000 RPM's. It's very nice to stay in 5th & pass a car on the FW under light throttle. If you don't dog the car, & live @ 6500rpm's turbo life should not be affected, & "may" increase do to less heat & stress on the turbo's due to the lower heat & stress of low RPM boost. But I can not prove this in any way, as the turbo's will blow for their own reasons.

Warranty, now this is a very valid point! The dealers are not suppose to be able to see the flash, or write over it. The flash is suppose to be in a memory hole. But if it was erased, then tuner should re-flash it for you for free. Really, I doubt the dealer will do much of anything on a chipped car, unless you blow a turbo, then it might be an issue.

I will say, "chipping" the car, is a NIGHT & DAY difference, & makes it feel like a whole other car. IMHO, outside of the warranty thing, it's totally worth it.

^ agre 100%, confirm what I said here and the other thread....

Again in MY experience, warranty has not been an issue... but if you bloew something that has a direct correlation with the chipping then.....
Also some dealers are really playing hardball wiht modded car owners but NOT all, most will fix the problems that are unrelated.
