New owner here, picked up my 2001 A6 yesterday. Looking under the hood this afternoon I noticed a ~1.25 inch hole on the front of the airbox apparently on the downstream side of the filter which would presumibly allow dirty air into the engine. Can anyone tell me what is supposed to be fitted there?

Any help would be appreciated.

Well after removing the cool air intake, I found a hose and elbow not connected. I wonder how long it was off. Some people should not be allowed under the hood.
